Spiders sink Vikings
Sunday, 05 October 2014 12:45

Concord defeated Central Cabarrus 29-12 Saturday night to stay in first place in the South Piedmont Conference.

Playing without starting quarterback Keenan Black the Spiders relied on the rushing attack with a few Jaydon Bell passes thrown in to keep the Vikings at bay.

Concord scored late in the first period on a Rocky Reid 1 yard plunge. Carter Mozingo passed to Reid for the 2 point attempt.

Later in the 2nd period Central scored on Daiyaan Fuller’s 21 yard run.

After swapping turnovers the Spiders went ahead on a Reid 15 yard run. The key play in the drive was a pass from Bell to a wide open Tucker Wall.

On the Spider’s next possession Bell would add a touchdown pass to Carter Mozingo on the last play of the half.

Concord defeated East Rowan 29-12 Friday night at Robert C. Bailey Stadium.

Before the game Head Coach Glen Padgett was presented his Shrine Bowl jacket by members of the Shriners.

However the victory came with a cost, Concord junior quarterback Keenan Black was knocked out of the game in the 3rd quarter. Black’s status is unknown at this time.

The Spiders took the opening kickoff and marched 72 yards behind the running of senior tailback Rocky Reid. Reid capped the drive with a 4 yard touchdown run. A two point conversion pass from Carter Mozingo to Drew Yoos put the Spiders ahead 8-0.

East wasted little time answering, scoring on their first play from scrimmage. Samuel Wyrick found his brother Seth for a 66 yard touchdown.

Spiders travel to South Rowan

Tonight Concord hits the road for an SPC contest at South Rowan.

After not winning a game last season the Raiders are 2-1 this season. The Raider's defense is much improved and is one of the area's top units statistically on the young season. Jason Rollins is the Raider's Head Coach in his 9th season.

Concord beat Hickory Ridge last week 32-29. The Spiders defense stopped the Ragin' Bulls on a key 4th down late in the game to preserve the win.

Series Record: 10-10-1

Last Season: Concord 34-14

Notes: Rocky Reid needs 21 yards to break Jamie Scott's CHS career rushing record of 5585 yards. Scott played for the Spiders from 1995-1997, and is now an assistant coach on the Spiders staff.

This is Concord's first visit to Donnell Stadium since 1984.

Kickoff is 7:30PM at South Rowan, get out and support your Spiders!
