Concord jumped out to a 21-0 lead and never looked back in a 49-28 victory Friday night at East Rowan.
Keenan Black continued his strong play, going 17-29 for 229 yards while throwing three touchdowns.
Black capped the Spider’s first drive with a 29 yard touchdown pass to Carter Mozingo.
Later in the second quarter Black hit Ethan Wilder who scored form five yards to put Concord up 14-0.
On the ensuing Mustang drive Concord cornerback Justin Nicholson stepped in front of a Max Wall pass and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown and a 21-0 Concord lead.
The Mustangs would answer, Naquise Caldwell caught a pass and slipped free from two Spider defenders to get the Mustangs on the board.
Concord responded with a methodical drive, capped by P.J. Hall’s five yard touchdown run.
The Wall to Caldwell connection would pay dividends for the Mustangs again. Wall threw a jump ball to the left corner of the endzone that Caldwell plucked out of the air for the Mustangs second score.
The Spiders replied with another long drive, dominated by Hall rushes. Black found tight end Drew Yoos over the middle to give Concord a 34-15 halftime lead.
Concord squashed any hopes of an East Rowan comeback in the third quarter. Black scored on a short keeper after guiding the Spiders down the field.
After a Mike Baker sack, Concord scored their final touchdown on a 20 yard Carter Mozingo run.
Concord subbed heavily toward the end of the third quarter.
Max Wall scored two rushing touchdowns in the 4th quarter, including one on the final play of the game.
Black’s strong play combined with an improved ground game featuring P.J. Hall proved too much for the Mustangs.
Hall finished with 85 yards on 16 carries. He also added 5 receptions good for 83 yards. Black also added 87 yards rushing.
The Spider defense turned in a strong effort, generating 5 turnovers and a score.

Senior tailback Jalen Cagle scored two fourth quarter touchdowns Friday night to drive Brown to a 26-15 victory over Concord. It was the 87th meeting in the storied rivalry between the schools separated by only 7 miles.
Brown struck first, taking a 7-0 lead after Damon Johnson’s 21 yard touchdown pass to Dominique Washington.
After exchanging a few punts Concord answered in the 2nd quarter. Keenan Black scored with 6:30 left in the second quarter to knot the score at 7 a piece. The drive featured a flea flicker completion to a leaping Hamsah Nasirildeen.
Brown took the lead midway through the third. Johnson found Washington again, this time covering 44 yards.
