Concord's Varsity and JV Football teams held their annual banquet tonight. We'll have more on the award winners later this week.

smith_ezAfter presenting the awards Head Coach E.Z. Smith announced his resignation as head football coach effective immediately. Echoing President Obama's campaign based on change, Coach Smith explained that he was ready for a change too. Principal Carla Black gave a moving and emotional speech about Coach Smith's passion and dedication to all students of Concord High School, including those who didn't play football. After thanking his family Smith individually thanked the many coaches, trainers, and support staff who have helped him over the years. Smith intends to continue teaching until June 2010.

Smith ends his tenure at Concord as the winningest head coach in the school's history with a record of 254-101-1 and two 3A State Championships. Read Coach Smith's full biography here.

Thanks for everything Coach!
