Page 1 of 3 Northwest Cabarrus defeated Concord 42-15 Friday night at Robert C. Bailey Stadium.
Northwest jumped out to a 14-0 lead behind the arm and rushing of senior quarterback Jeremy Cannon. Concord's offense started slow but found some success in the 2nd quarter behind their version of the wildcat offense. Junior tailback Varen Blake scored from 3 yards out to get the Spiders on the board. Concord faked the point after and Ryan Goodman found Ben Kelnhoffer wide open in the end zone to cut the Trojan lead to 14-8.
The Trojans wasted little time expanding their lead as Grant Keyes returned the ensuing lickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. Concord was forced to punt on the next possession but it was blocked by Trojan linebacker Matt Pless. The Spider defense buckled down and stopped the Trojans on downs including a 4th down pass broken up by Spider defensive back Mark O'Brien.
On the last possession of the first half Concord went to the no huddle offense and scored as Dominique Posey scored from 14 yards out to get the Spiders with 5 at 20-15.
Concord's defense started the 2nd half with a 3 and out after a sack by Darren Posey. However the Trojans would control the rest of the game. After a Concord punt Cannon put the Trojans up 27-15 with a 35 yard touchdown run. On the next possession a bad snap on a Concord punt was recovered in the endzone by the Trojans to expand the lead to 34-15.
Concord's next possession also ended with a turnover as Richard Lane intercepted a Concord pass. Northwest added another score as Grant Keyes scampered for a 27 yard touchdown.
Concord would drive again but the drive ended with an interception on a tipped ball. Northwest added a safety for the final margin 42-15.
