Page 1 of 3 Concord defeated Mt. Pleasant 20-14 Friday night in a hard fought contest at Robert C. Bailey Stadium. The defenses controlled most of the first quarter, neither team was able to put together a sustained drive. Mt. Pleasant took the lead early in the 2nd quarter when Zack Cook scored on a 2 yard touchdown run. That touchdown was setup after a high snap sailed over Concord punter Brandon Barnhardt and the Tigers recovered at the Spider's two yard line. Later in the 2nd Concord would tie the score on a 28 yard touchdown pass from B.J. Beecher to Jacquise Moore. That drive was setup by a Bradley Phillips interception. The Spider defense held the Tigers on the next possession. Concord would drive into Tiger territory just before halftime but the drive stalled and Barnhardt missed a 31 yard field goal to end the first half with a 7-7 tie. Concord took the opening kickoff in the second half and drove straight down the field. After an apparent touchdown was called back due to a penalty the Spiders drive ended as Brandon Barnhardt's field goal attempt sailed wide right. Concord's defense would force a Tiger punt on the next posession. The Spiders would take advantage putting together another long drive capped by a short Dominique Posey touchdown run. That drive also featured long passes to J.D. Misenheimer and Jacquise Moore. The 3rd quarter ended with the Spiders up 14-7. The Spiders would strike again early in the 4th quarter as Varen Blake added a 1 yard rushing touchdown. The extra point was wide right. Mt. Pleasant wasted little time scoring two plays later as Brandon Burris turned a short pass from Matt Barrier into a 95 yard touchdown. Concord was able to run most of the time off the clock before punting back to the Tigers with less than a minute remaining. Spider cornerback Ryan Goodman picked off a Barrier pass near midfield to end the game. B.J. Beecher finished 21-32 with one touchdown pass and one interception. Beecher completed passes to 8 different receivers. Jacquise Moore led the receiving corps with 6 catches for 100 yards and a touchdown. Dominique Posey had 23 carries for 92 yards and a touchdown.
