Concord defeated Kannapolis 13-10 before a packed house Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

Kannapolis entered the game as a heavy favorite in many people's minds. The Wonders had already earned the SPC Championship and the conference's #1 playoff seed. On top of that the Spiders came into the Bell Game with a 4-6 record compared to 9-1 for the Wonders.

However Coach Glen Padgett and his Spiders had a different script in mind. The Spiders took the lead in the first quarter and never trailed.

After the teams exchanged early turnovers, Concord got on the board first when B.J. Beecher found Jacquise Moore for a 60 yard touchdown strike.

Kannapolis would answer with their only touchdown of the night on the next possession. Tevin Jones caught a short pass from Martel Campbell and lateraled to Travis Riley who scampered down the sideline to tie the game.

Concord lined up for the go-ahead field goal on the next possession but instead holder Ryan Goodman flipped the ball to Jacquise Moore who ran for the first down. Later in the drive Concord went to their version of the wildcat offense with Dominique Posey as the feature back. Posey scored form one yard out but the extra point was blocked by Wonder defensive back Mike Robinson.

Just before halftime the Wonders blocked a punt to setup their offense at the Spider's 9 yard line. The Spiders defense buckled down and held the Wonders to a 16 yard field goal. The first half ended with the Spiders up 13-10.

The defenses controlled the 2nd half. Neither team was in scoring position until the fourth quarter when the Wonders drove deep into Concord territory with less than four minutes to play. The Spider defense and a fumbled pitch would leave the Wonders with a 4th and long to keep the drive alive. Spider linebacker Jalen Brown picked off Campbell's 4th down pass to end the scoring threat with 3:44 remaining.

The Spiders used as much time as possible and punted back to the Wonders for one final opportunity. However like most of the night the Spiders defense held and the Spiders took over on downs at the Kannapolis 27 yard line.

B.J. Beecher finished 10-23 for 135 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Dominique Posey led the SPider rushing attack with 18 carries for 78 yards and a touchdown. Terrance Highsmith lef the receiving corps with 3 receptions. Jacquise Moore also had 2 receptions and a touchdown.

The Wonder's 10 points were their lowest scoring output of the season. The Spider defense kept Wonder star running back Travis Riley in check for most of the night. Riley had been averaging nearly 170 rushing yards per game. Darrin Posey led the defense with 8 tackles and a fumble recovery. Jalen Brown added 7 tackles and an interception. Ben Kelnhoffer also had 6 tackles.
